Club lunch at the Langham

Club members enjoyed a lovely lunch at the Langham on Friday 8th April to mark the beginning of the new season. The event had been organised by Petina Hapgood and Linda Henderson. Members had gathered from noon for an aperitif then sat down at 1.00 for lunch. We were particulary pleased to see our newest club life member George Potier accompanied by his daughter. You can see a photo of George below, with his life member's badge.

Club chairman Jo Doust welcomed everyone and led two toasts: to "The Queen" in her jubilee year and to "Gildredge Park Bowls Club". Grace was said by Petina Hapgood. The Langham put on their usual splendid spread. Members enjoyed a choice of starters, main course and dessert followed by coffee and mints. All the options were delicious. Popular choices included the crayfish starter, confit of beef main course, and for dessert the apple and blackberry crumble with ice cream and custard.

Between the main course and the dessert, Club President Carol Heasman had the diners in stitches as she told a funny story about a swimsuit shopping expedition. Then the raffle was drawn with some really lovely winning prizes. £153 was raised for club funds.

After dessert Jo Doust told of some of the old bowling clubs in Eastbourne. Petina Hapgood gave a vote of thanks to everyone who had helped and to the Langham staff.

It was a splendid day all round.
