International star comes to Gildredge for the Bowls' Big Weekend

Everything is gearing up for the club open day as part of the national Bowls' Big Weekend. The exciting news is that international star Lorraine Kuhler will be coming. Lorraine is in the Commonwealth Games squad for Birmingham 2022 and has been selected for the Worlds in Australia. She will chat with members and visitors and we are hoping she may be willing to bowl a few ends.

Also coming along are the new Eastbourne Mayor Pat Rodohan and our M.P. Caroline Ansell.

Potential bowlers will be helped by a band of over 25 club volunteers. Visitors can play fun bowls games on the lower green then receive further advice and 'have a go ' at a game on the upper green and take part in a top score competition.

Anita and Ian Dixon with club members are providing teas/bar and George Murrey is running a BBQ.

Carole Forge is running a raffle and the organising team have obtained some really great prizes including a discounted hotel stay, a grand tea, a harbour breakfast, two hair and beauty vouchers, an exterior house clean, and much more.

Club members are welcome to come along and bring family, friends, or anyone they think might like to give bowls a go - whatever age.

The day runs from 10.00 to 4.00. We expect the Mayor at 12.00 - he and the mayoress are staying for an hour or two and will have lunch at the club. They will be hosted by club President Dorothy Bromiley. Arrangements are still being firmed up with Caroline Ansell and Lorraine Kuhler.

The organising group is Marilyn Doust, Barbara Shaw, Petina Hapgood, Denise Smith, Chris Willing and Jo Doust. They have been working hard to make arrangements and to publicise the event. Club members are encouraged to share the details with all their family, friends and social media. This nationally-linked event is a great opportunity to give people a chance to experience bowls, and for our club to recruit new members.
