Coats and scarves were soon discarded as seriously hard work countered a chilly start at
8.30 am for maintenance day. The club was a hive of (socially distanced) activity this morning with more than 20 members busy around both greens, and in the clubhouse, getting the facilities ready for the opening drive.
Bags full of weeds, moss and grass have been scraped labourishly from the paths and from 200 ditch mats. The clocks have been put forward an hour, the short mat bowls equipment stored away for the summer, and the changing rooms cleared.
Biscuit supplies, tea bags, tables and chairs are all set waiting. It was a glorious sunny morning and there was a palpable sense of expectation for when the first bowl will roll on April 12th.
